Dr. Selamu Yisihak Handiso is a highly accomplished Researcher, Lecturer, and Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineering expert with over 14 years of progressive experience in education, training, and applied engineering research. He holds a Ph.D. in Education (Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering) from Tianjin University of Technology and Education, with a specialization in Artificial Intelligent Manufacturing and Industrial Robotics Engineering. His diverse expertise spans higher education, vocational and technical education (TVET), education policy, and cutting-edge technologies, including Computer-Aided Technologies (CAX), AI-driven manufacturing, and robotics systems design.
Dr. Handiso is a recognized authority in implementing the Luban Workshop Training System and the Chinese EPIP Teaching Model, both of which enhance technical and vocational training standards globally. He has contributed significantly to curriculum design, skills development programs, and international collaborations in TVET, leading high-impact projects and capacity-building initiatives for educators and industry practitioners alike.
In his professional career, he has served as Researcher at Tianjin University of Technology and Education, Director of Planning, Budget & Income Generation at the Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute, and Senior Expert at the Federal TVT Agency (Ethiopia). Earlier, he taught mathematics and physics at technical colleges and secondary schools, demonstrating his strong foundation in pedagogy and learner-centered education.
Dr. Handiso’s contributions to the field are reinforced by numerous international conference presentations, invited book translations and chapters, and a portfolio of peer-reviewed publications on artificial intelligence manufacturing and engineering education. He also serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research (IJSER) and Consulting Editor of the International Journal of High-Tech Technology, Engineering and Vocational Education (IJHTTEVE).
A celebrated innovator, he won the World Robot Skill Competition (Gold Medal, Beijing, China) and continues to promote human capital development in smart manufacturing across Africa and Asia. His technical skills encompass advanced manufacturing technologies, including CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM software, 3D printing, CNC/NC applications, mold flow design, and high-speed machining techniques.
Passionate about education reform and industry-aligned training, Dr. Handiso has been instrumental in advancing global TVET systems. He served as President of the Ethiopian Student Association in China (2020–2023) and is a board member of Kembatoma Action International, a U.S.-based nonprofit. Fluent in international collaboration, he brings a unique ability to bridge academia, research, and industry in shaping the future of smart manufacturing and robotics education.
