Fredrick Manyinsa Onkware, P.Eng.Tech, MBA, B.Tech (Mechanical & Production Engineering), is an accomplished Mechanical Engineer and University Administrator with over 20 years of progressive experience in engineering systems management, institutional administration, and infrastructure development. Currently serving as the Deputy Registrar (Administration & Central Services) at Kisii University, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing facilities, transport, estates, and central operations while ensuring compliance with national and Commission for University Education (CUE) standards. His career reflects a blend of technical expertise and strategic management, driven by a commitment to linking engineering practice with education, training, and industrial development.
Fredrick’s professional journey began at Sony Sugar Company Ltd as an Assistant Maintenance Technician and Management Trainee, where he gained hands-on experience in heavy industrial machinery maintenance and safety systems. He later joined Maseno University as Transport, Safety & Plant Manager, where he successfully implemented occupational safety protocols and optimized mechanical operations to improve plant efficiency. At Kisii University, he rose through the ranks from Transport Manager to Estates & Transport Manager, and subsequently to his current position as Deputy Registrar, where he continues to provide strategic direction in infrastructure development, asset management, and administrative policy implementation.
He holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Planning and Management (IT Option) from Maseno University, a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical and Production Engineering from Moi University, and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive Option) from the Technical University of Kenya. In addition, he has completed the Senior Management Course (SMC) at the Kenya School of Government, equipping him with advanced leadership and governance competencies.
Fredrick is a registered Practicing Engineer (Mechanical) with the Kenya Technical Regulatory Engineering Board (KETREB Reg. No. PRT00987) and a member of the Institution of Engineering Technologists (IET) and the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). His technical competencies span mechanical and production engineering, project planning and supervision, facilities and asset management, water and sanitation systems, maintenance and safety compliance, institutional governance, and strategic planning.
Beyond his administrative and technical roles, Fredrick contributes actively to educational and community development through his service on several Boards of Governors and Management, including West Mugirango Vocational Training Institute, Kioge Girls’ Secondary School, Nyanchwa Adventist Boys High School, Bugo Secondary School, and St. Philips Rateti Secondary School.
